I am trying to find Michael Sargint (a Carpenter by trade) and his wife Ann (Annie) Tracy. They had at least 4 children born in Cappoquin. Margaret (18 March1869) , Anne  (18 March 1869) (twins it seems), Ellen (8 October 1870), Cornelius( 20 April 1867). I have found these in the the Civil records. All born in Castle Street , Cappoquin.

However, my ancestor James Matthew Sargent marriage and death records say he is also born in Cappoquin (1859) and another sister Kate Mary abt 1856.

James, Kate and Mary all came to Queensland , Australia in 1881/1882 .

I cannot find anything on parents Michael and Ann , where they came from and where they went. Also nothing on the births prior to civil registration.

Does anyone have a connection or ideas for this family? My cousin is visiting Ireland next month so would like to try and set them on the right path to the family.

Thanks to all

  • These are a popular family that continue to live at Cappoquin. It is a small place and they will have no problem making contact when they arrive in Cappoquin. good luck with it all.

  • Hello  Eddie,

We have spoken in the past about my John ANDERSON(Stradbally RIC) and daughters one who married SMYTH (Abbeyside) . Other daughter married Foley(Cappoquin) , BUT this is my Cousin's Sargent family this time. They have been to Cappoquin before and cannot make a connection to the Sargents in Cappoquin!!! and the families they met could not either.

The only births I have found so far his family are for Parents Michael SARGINT and Ann TRACY. I cannot see anything else anywhere to make a connection. Maybe it is through the TRACY side? The christian names for children are rare in the SARGENT families it seems. Michael was a carpenter and so was his son who came to Australia. from you knowledge of the area is there something that would make that a clue? Is it possible he was a ships's carpenter for example. I am grasping at straws really.

James Matthew Sargint married in Listowel, Kerry in 1881 , so that is a bit odd also.

Rack your brain for me as to help me see what I am missing! Please

Sargint married into my Anderson in Australia! Small world

  • Hello Erin,

    Hope this finds you well.

I see from your message above that you are related to John and Eliza Anderson of Stradbally. A lady named Mary Brown of Maynooth University is researching John Anderson for a master's thesis, and would love to make contact with you. Her email address is maryclancybrown@gmail.com

    Best wishes,
