Patrick Doolan gave his birth place as Lismore, County Waterford when he enlisted in the 51st Regiment of Light Infantry in 1825. He was 18 so a birth date of 1807.
I cannot find the baptism records of Catholic Parish of Lismore pre 1820 and assume they were destroyed. According to John Gresham, there were three Doolan families living Lismore by mid century. So perhaps there is some local intelligence on these families elsewhere.
Any references you could point me to will be most welcome.

In 1825, there were three Doolans listed as head of household in Lismore in the Tithe Applotment Books. See below. Perhaps one of them is your ancestor's father.

They were not destroyed it is just that there are no RC baptism records for Lismore (or for a lot of parishes in Ireland) before 1820. City areas are lucklier. Beacuse of the lack of BMD records we find that the land records can help plave families in areas

You could try searching www.rootsireland.ie to follow the lines of the Doolan families. It is a pay site.
