Hello there,

I am researching my ancestors William Moore and Brigid Noonan, both born in 1827 if I have found the correct birth records.  They were married 8 February 1855 in Lismore Parish and both list "Ballisagart" as their address.  They had at least 8 children that I have found in the parish records, including my ancestor Catherine Moore, who was baptized 16 April 1859 in Lismore Parish (address given as "Ballysagartmore").

Catherine emigrated to American perhaps in the early 1880s.  She was married in Manhattan, New York City in 1884.  Her parents and at least several siblings remained behind in Ireland, as I have found them in Cloghaun, Ballysaggartmore in the 1901 and 1911 census records.

I believe William Moore died in 1903 and Brigid Noonan Moore died in 1926.  Have very few details on the siblings.  I have found one of them in the 1911 census who married and had children of his own.

Very keen to find out if there are any Moore descendants still living in the area, as our family will be visiting Ireland soon.  Would also like to find out if my William Moore is the one listed in Griffith's Valuation as a tenant of Alfred Ussher.

Any pointers for local research would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

  • Thank you very much for the reply!

I was able to connect with one of the Moore families still living in Cloghaun and visited with them during our trip to Ireland last week.  It was very special to walk on the very land where my ancestors lived.

I have found William's and Bridget's death records in the civil registrations.  I think I may have found William's resting place in the cemetery next to St. Carthage's Cathedral in Lismore, but I am still searching for Bridget's.

If anyone connects to this family, I would appreciate hearing from you.

  • Hi there. My grandmother was from Knockadav or Seemacudda which is in Ballysaggart. They were Moores, too. My grand-uncle was a Willam Moore born late 19th century. Hope you find out more.
