What RC Parish would have served the Kilmacthomas area in the late 1800s and early 1900s? What cemeteries would have served that area during the same time period. My Great Grandmother was Mary Scurry daughter of Willam Scurry and Margaret Egan. She was born in Kilmacthomas and emigrated to the New York area of the US. I would love to connect with any relatives still in Waterford. Thank you for any assistance you can give.

Kilmacthomas is partly in Ballylaneen civil parish, and part in Rossmire civil parish, and in the 1800s would have been covered by Stradbally RC parish.

there are some possible siblings for your Mary on the extracted records on Familysearch. These are partial details from civil birth records, so dont include several of the details from the register or cert, and often show a registration district rather than actual place of birth. The extracted civil records dont include all birth and only cover up to about 1880
see : Scurry / Egan births
Mary is shown as born 1869, her siiblings include older brother James 1867, and younger Ellen 1870, John 1872 and William 1874

The baptisms for the children seem to be showing on the RootsIreland index under Kill (RC), which in this case I believe refers to the RC parish of 'Newtown & Kill' to the east of Stradbally parish. The Kilmacthomas reference in the extracted records might be a litle misleading, as it refers to the civil district rather than the RC parish. The town and the areas nearby would likely be covered by both Stradbally and 'Newtown & Kill' RC parishes.
Possibly the best way to narrow down a detailed location for this family would be with a birth cert for one of the children. This would often include place of birth and residence as the name of an actual townland.

you may already have seen, but just in case... possible match for William and Margaret along with son William on the 1901 return -
They seem to be in the eastern part of the townland or town of Kilmacthomas, and William snr & jnr are bakers.

Thank you for that information. I do have the family in both the 1901 and 1911 census. I am sure that it is them because my mother said that Mary's father was a baker and all of the rest of the information matches. The census is where I got Rossmire from. I am mostly looking for death records and or burial place. It appears that Mary's father may have been in a workhouse in 1911 as paralyzed. The age and years of marriage match with Margaret's information living with her son WIlliam. Another of Mary's siblings Honora also came to the US. Her brother William married Mary Walsh and their son James came to the US also. Another sister Anastasia married Patrick Walsh and several of their children came to the US too.

Any deaths should be on the BMD Index, but you'd need to order the certs to confirm if these link to your Scurry family, using occupation, address etc. Burials can be more difficult to track down as RC registers often dont include these, but you could check for cemeteries in the area, or transcriptions of headstones.
Link to some of the deaths listed for the Scurry surname in Kilmacthomas registration district in the early 1900s - see here (FamilySearch)
EDIT : probably the most likely matches for death of that Scurry couple are Margaret in 1923 age given as 87 (c1836), and possible one for William in 1916 age as 70 (c1846). Ages given for death registrations depend on the knowledge of whoever informed the registrar, and are often not very accurate.

Thank you so much for the information. For Margaret that age at death would be very accurate. I do have her birth record from Kilkenny as 1836. Thank you so much for your assistance.
