Hi All,

Im searching for records relating to William Sexton born circa 1851 died June 24 1894 and his wife Johanna Sexton, I do not know her maiden name. She remarried sometime between 1894 and 1901 and did not take the name of her husband Patrick Hurton till after 1901 census. 

I know they had the following children with approx birth year:

James 1883

Michael 1884 (my great great grandfather)

William 1886

Kate 1888

Mary 1890

Bridget 1892

Thomas 1893

Hannah 1894

I got all that info from the 1901 census, except Williams death which I got from the Waterford Library death records search. 

I am interested in Johanna's madien name, her birth year, and where Johanna and William were born and where I may be able to get those records online so I can continue my march back through time. 

I run into walls when using the free searches, example, when I narrow search to William and add spouse Johanna, no records pop up. 

Thanks for anything you guys can do and thank you for volunteering and connecting people to their personal history, you all are unsung heroes!

    I looked for the marriage index record for William Sexton and Johanna. I expected the marriage to have occurred in 1881 or 1882 based on the birth of the first child in 1883. I found two possible records in the Youghal registration district. The Youghal district includes the southern part of Co. Waterford. I used www.findmypast.ie which is a pay site. This site lists the names of all the spouses on the page where a particular record was recorded. For example, in the 1878 record below there were four marriages recorded on that page. As you can see there are two Johanna s listed so possibly William was married to one of those two. Looking at the 1881 record below, there are no Johannas but a Hannah Foley. Do you know if your ancestor was William Denis Sexton? I'm opting for the 1881 marriage record because of its proximity to 1883 and I note that one of the children was a Hannah. Just my opinion.  In any event, you would need to write to the GRO www.groireland.ie to get a copy of any of the records. Fill out their form and provide the quarter/year of marriage, registration district and the volume and page number. Costs around 4 euros per record requested. The record will provide the maiden name, the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where they were living when married.
