I'm getting in touch from Argentina. My great grandfather, Patrick McLoughlin, was born in Ballymore, Westmeath in 1852.  He arrived in Argentina in 1872.  I don't know much about his emigration and I am trying to get some info about the family.

I'd like to know if any sisters/brothers of Patrick McLoughlin, stayed in Ireland and have descendants.  I know it won't be an easy job, but I'm very enthused and hopeful about it.

I have plans to visit Ireland in 2018 or 2019.

Any tip will be very welcome.

Many thanks!!!!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked on Roots Ireland and it appears that Patrick was the youngest child of Edward and Mary Fitzgerald. I found Mary 1835 Elizabeth 1839 Ann 1830s (Roots did not have the year) John 1841 and Edward 1850. Here is the link to the parish register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0909  you can search for the baptismal records. Marriage records did not start until 1839. You might be able to find marriage records for Patrick's sisters in the register.

The 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Ballymore civil parish shows four McLoughlin records but no Edward http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/westmeath/ballymore.htm   was he deceased or maybe not leasing land?

Below is the 1852 transcription of the baptismal record for Patrick which I assume you have.

Let me know if you have questions.

  • Many thanks for your prompt reply.  My mother has just told me, that Patrick McLoughlin married Margaret Flood, also born in Ireland but don't know where. He, perhaps,  left for Boston, USA, before coming to Argentina. Have no info about his brothers/sisters

  • Now searching for Margaret Flood, born in 1862, probably Westmeath or Longford, where the great majority of ínmigtants to Argentina came from. Who married Patrick McLoughlin in Argentina in 1891.

    Many thanks!

I searched on Roots Ireland from 1857-1867 and located five possible baptismal records (three in Westmeath and two in Longford). Without knowing her parents names, we can't confirm any of these records.

This may be the record. Moyvore is an RC parish which covers Westmeath and Longford so you can't tell whether she was born in Westmeath or Longford.

    Hello!

I've just found in www.familysearch.org, the wedding register of Margaret Flood & Patrcik McLoughlin, that took place in Argentina (1891), and it says her parents were, Catalina (Catherine) Rooney and Pedro (Peter) Flood.

Wondering if Peter & Thomas Flood are the same person.

  • Hello!!!!

According to some new information I found, it seems the baptismal record shared above, doesn't belong to my great grandmother MARGARET FLOOD

From her Marriage Record, and her children's Baptismal Records, I have that she was born circa 1862/1864, and her parents were PETER FLOOD & CATHERINE ROONEY.

One of her son's godmother was CATALINA FLOOD, born circa 1867, who might have been her sister.

And MARIA FLOOD, born circa 1849, also appears in related records.

    Regards,

    Silvia

I located records for Mary (Maria) and Catherine but not a record for Margaret. There was also a sister Anne 1844 and brother John 1851.
