I am looking for information on the final resting place of a John Geoghegan brn 1785 and Rose Maguire Geoghegan brn 1789 his wife. Some stories tell that they migrated to England and some of their children emigrated to America around 1845 to 1850's. I can't find any imformation on the birth of their 11 children but their are records of some of them in America. John is said to be from Frevanagh, Westmeath County but not sure where Rose is from actually. Their children are as listed:
Gerald Geoghegan 1809
Dermot Geoghegan 1812
Hester Geoghegan 1814
James Geoghegan 1816
Thomas Geoghegan 1819
Richard Geoghegan 1821
Davey Geoghegan 1824
John Geoghegan 1827
Elizabeth Geoghegan 1829
William Geoghegan 1830
Mary Geoghegan 1832
All are said to have been born in Westmeath. Any information or help would be appreciated!!!

goaljo:
The 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows that John Geoghegan was in Frevanagh at that time.

Further searching on the subscription site Roots Ireland, I located a gravestone inscription in Durrow graveyard in Co. Offaly. ( There are actually two Durrow parishes side by side one in Offaly and the other in Westmeath).

Hello Roger,
Thanks for the information. I would like to find out more about Rose (Maguire) Geoghegan. Where she is
from(some say she is also from the same area).
Thanks,

Joanna:
The only record that may be of interest is the 1853 Griffiths for Durrow parish. There was a David McGuire in Ballybroder townland. Maybe he was related to Rose.

John Geoghegan is son of John & Rose (Pidgeon) Geoghegan Frevanagh Westmeath.
COPIED FROM NOTES ON SON JAMES' PAGE - 27 August 2010 by e todd mckenna POSSIBLE DAD TO JAMES: JOHN GEOGHEGAN born 1785 Married in 1808 to Rose McGuire born 1787 Children are: Gerald 1809 Dermot 1812 James 1816 Thomas 1819 Richard 1821 Davey 1824 John 1827 Elizabeth 1829-1831 Mary 1832 This information came from Dale Smith who's wife is a descendant. He received it from Carlie Lewis: James and Mary got married and left for the US during the Great Potato Famine in 1847/48. Following from a personal interview with a man named Fred in Westmeath, Ireland. In search to find Geoghegan Ancestors: The man began to tell the story of our James and Mary. He said that the house that his family was living in there (pointing) was the original ancestral home of our Geoghegan family and that James Geoghegan was born in it. The house was over 200 years old, with walls two feet thick. He then pointed to a piece of land adjacent to his and said that was where Mary Highland's family had lived until 1854. The Highland's property was called "Clunedewalla". The man Fred went on to say that although the Geoghegan's and Highland's were neighbors, they were separated by the county line - the Geoghegan's living on the Westmeath side and the Highland's living on the Offaly side in Durrow. Offaly County used to be Kings County. During the discussion, the big question was asked: Do you know the names of James' parents? Fred replied, "Yes, they were John Geoghegan and Rose McGuire. The Geoghegan Ancestral Home inhabited since 1735. At the back of it, where the daffodils are growing, was an old Catholic graveyard. It was closed sometime about 1835 or 36. Over there (pointing) is Highland's field. It is Ballycalaghan, the townland of Ballycalaghan, in the parish of Durrow, in the County of Offaly. It borders the County of Westmeath. The Highland's lived there until about the 1840's and Mary Highland lived there, married James Geoghegan of Frevanaugh (3 miles south of Kilbeggan). Mary Highland: also have surname spelled Hyland, have birthplace listed as Kilbeggan and Durrow tombstone says native of Castletown-Geoghegan died of Rheumatic Fever have death date of 1868 and 1869
