Hi,

Looking for relatives and more information on Margaret Duffy, my GG Grandmother.

Parents Thomas Duffy and Maria formerly Duffy, born abt 1845 Kilbeggan, Westmeath. (have confirmed Kilbeggan)

Margaret emmigrated to Australia before June 1868 when she married Michael Lonergan at Yulebah,Queensland, Australia.  I have found a few possible shipping records but nothing yet to confirm.

I have paid for a search with Dun Na S and the wonderful researcher has found a family with parents Thomas Duffy and Mary Duffy married 29 May 1831 thier daughter Margaret Duffy baptised in 1838 (7 years younger than what she states on her records in Australia) the other possible siblings are Mary baptised 1832, John 1834, Michael 1836, Patrick 1840, Elizabeth 1843, Bridget 1845, Teresa 1847, David 1849, Anne 1851, Thomas 1854 - all the Baptismal records and marriage records are from Kilbeggan Parish, Roman Catholic.

It does seem strange that with Margaret having so many possible siblings that there has never been any contact with any Duffy relations.

Would love help on this

Margaret

  • Hi Margaret,

Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information on these other siblings gets in contact with you.

Have you tried looking in the 1901/1911 census records for any of the siblings? If you can find some possibilities it may give you an idea of which of them stayed in the area and what family they had. You can search these here:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
