Hi, Ireland Reaching Out, I may be pursuing an impossible task.  I know that my McGlynn/Langan/Aegan (maybe Egan) families came from the RC parish of Tubber and Rosemount. Thomas McGlynn senior was born around 1784, married Catharine Aegan, b. circa 1785.  His son Thomas junior was born in 1813, m. Bridget Langan in Tubber RC parish Feb. 22, 1841, with witnesses Michael Dolan and Dorothy Coffy.  Thomas junior and Bridget had a daughter Catharine baptized Feb. 27, 1842, in Tubber and Rosemount parish, with sponsors Patrick Gannon and Susan Maglin (probably her aunt).

Between 1842 and 1844 (when my greatgreat grandmother was born to the younger Thomas and Bridget in Maine, USA), the younger McGlynn family and the older McGlynn parents emigrated to the US. Some of the latter's children stayed in Ireland. They included Bridget, who married a Kane; Margaret, b. 1826 who married James Doolin in Tubber parish July 2, 1848; Anna, who married John Busby;and  Susan, who married a Clavin and a Remmington.

This is my tantalizing question - in what townland or townlands might the families have lived if their church was in Tubber/Rosemount? Is there any way of finding an answer to that question?

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The Griffiths Valuation survey was conducted in Co. Westmeath in 1853-1854. There are two civil parishes which correspond to Tubber RC parish: Kilcumreragh and Kilmanaghan. Below are links to the head of hosuehold listing for both parishes from the Griffiths. From what I can see, your families were more likely from townlands in Kilmanaghan parish. By the way, your Aegan was likely Egan.  Here is the link to the parish register for Tubber http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0946  I would search for baptismal records for the children of the McGlynn daughters. Possibly the register will show the name of the townlands where they lived. Some parish registers have this information, others did not.
