I have just received information that James Elliott was born (no date) in Moydow, County Longford, Ireland - he joined the Metropolitan Police - London 1863 at age 26 years which suggests a birth about 1837, however his marriage to Emily Fleeson 1861 Killucan, Westmeath suggests a birth about 1835.

While the London documents say that James was previously a farmer, his marriage 1861 says he was a policeman in Ireland
Any clues to the Elliott (Elliot) family in Moydow would be greatly appreciated .... Alison - Australia

As you can see from the link below, Moydow is a Civil Parish in Co. Longford:
Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Ardagh begin in 1793.
Have you tried searching the sites below for the record of the Elliott family:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
Other important sources include the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith?s Valuation. Even though these sources only list the head of household, the information is still important:
