Is there access to the Pakenham Hall/Coolure Demense tenant records? My family worked on the estate for many years, the last of whom left in 1955. I can trace with certainty back to a marriage in Coole Parish on the 12 Oct 1876 between Michael Connor and Catherine Duff. Michael's father Patrick also worked on the estate as a ploughman and Catherine's father Daniel Duff (Duffe) worked as a servant in Coolure Demesne.
I would love to find out the family secrets (did they come from Mayo with Elisabeth Cuffe in 1740, the first Lady of the house?)
Who are the Duff's (Duffe's)? Are there any living in the area?

Thanks for your reply. I have gone down the roads you listed with no success. The papers which contain the information are held in Tullynally Castle. I thought that some local historical society may have some information. The two things I am interested in are the origins of the Connor/O Connor family that worked on the Estate. I Griffiths Valuations there are two Connor families, one of which, Patrick, is my GGGrandfather. I would guess the other John, is his brother.
The other route I want to explore is the Duff or Duffe family. The variances come from one name on one certificate and the other on a siblings record. I know nothing about these people except Catherine Duff was my GGGrandmother and her father, Daniel was a servant in Coolure. There are no other Duff(e)'s in the area at that time, but there might be some now. I would love to know where they came from and where did the go?
Many thanks for your help.

Hello, I'm also looking for information on the tenants of Coolure. Particularly Elizabeth Creighton. She appears in the Griffiths valuation. Her landlord was Thomas Pakeham of Coolure.

Hi I've been advised to contact Eliza Pakenham c/o Tullynally, Castlepollard Co. Westmeath for information. I think that the local library in Castlepollard might be helpful.
Let me know how you get on

Hi knockeyon,
Since I started this thread, I have met Eliza Pakinham and her father and they were most gracious to me. They allowed me access to their archives which, unfortunately, are basically "in a pile". Their farm records only go back to around 1855. There is no other record available in Tullynally Castle at this point. Eliza did tell me that it was her responsibility to put the records in order. Perhaps when that is done other material will come to light.
One avenue I wish to go down is to identify the staff who travelled from Ballinrobe with Elisabeth Cuffe in the 1740's.
That may be of interest!
