Patrick & Bridget are parents of six children, all born in Ireland. I think these were all born in Westmeath. These are Mary (born c. 1833); Patrick (born c. 1838); Matthew (born 6 Jan. 1840 in Westmeath); Ann (born c. 1840); Ellen (born c. 1845); and Michael (born 25 August 1849 in Westmeath). The father Patrick's Naturalization Record gives his birthdate as September 1799 in Dysert, Westmeath, Ireland. He sought citizenship in March 1857 in Lawrence, Massacusetts Police Court after earlier appearing there to state his desire for citizenship on 10 October 1853. He died 25 March 1859 and the Death Record states his occupation is farmer.       A family record gives the marriage year, but no further details. The parents, five children, and 2 female Carney relatives are listed in the ship's manifest found on www.Dunbrody.com aboard the ship Plymouth Rock from Liverpool which arrived in Boston on 18 April 1851. Only the son Matthew Carney's name is missing. The Naturalization Record for Matthew Carney and his brother Michael Carney state they arrived on 20 April 1850 in Boston. This petition for citizenship was filed in Essex County Superior Criminal Court on 19 October 1867 in Salem, Essex  County, Massachusetts. The family of both parents and six children are recorded living in Lawrence in the 2nd Ward in the 1855 Massachusetts State Census. The parents of Patrick Carney (1799-1859) are thought to be Patrick Carney and Ellen Larkin (no dates). The parents of Bridget Seery are thought to be Patrick Seery and Ellen ?? (no dates).

The family are Roman Catholic. All three sons married and one daughter also married in Lawrence. I am seeking further historical data about the family and its ancestors. Thank you.

  • I have found a record for Patrick Seery in the 1825 Tithe Applotment Books of the National Archives of Ireland. He lived in the Civil Parish of Dysert. I believe Bridget Seery married Patrick Carney there in c. 1833. I have found no Tithe Applotment Books entry for Patrick Carney.
