My great-grandfather Terence Reilly (born about 1845) immigrated to the US (Brooklyn) around 1860. According to his death certificate, his parents were Terence Reilly and Bridget Carew.
He had at least two sisters. Two became nuns. On the convent records of his sister Bridget, she listed her parents as Terence Reilly and Bridget Kelly. (She gave the information to the convent, but my granduncle gave the information for the death certificate. Thus, I am assuming that the mother's maiden name was Kelly. But I can't confirm that.)
Where could I find information from County Meath (listed by Bridget Reilly on her application to the convent as her place of birth) that might clarify this? (Another discrepancy is that the death certificate listing for place of birth for my great-grandfather is County Westmeath, but again, we are assuming that my great-grandaunt was correct about Meath as she gave the information about her birthplace and she certainly should have known where she was born.)
What we know for sure is that Terence and Bridget Reilly had at least three children: Terence, Jr. (Birth year about 1845), Bridget (DOB: 23 May 1846) and another daughter.
We are not sure if the maiden name of my gg-grandmother was Kelly or Carew (but we are leaning toward Kelly because the information was provided by her daughter rather than a grandson who never met her.)
Any hep would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Christine
I couldn't find a birth/baptism record for Terrence or a marriage record for the parents on www.rootsireland.ie
The only birth/baptism record for a child of Terrence Reilly with mother Bridget (no surname specified) was Catherine Reilly 1798 in Meath
http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie/quis.php?page=1&confirmPageView=Y
I managed to get the parish of the record and it is Kilskyre/Ballinlough RC
The Tithe Applotments 1823-42 (free online) have 500+ Reillys in Meath including 14 in Kilskier
There is a Terrence at Balnagon Upper Kilskier 1830 & another Terence at Balagnon Lower in the same year
Perhaps this is the parish to direct your enquiries to

Christine,
Are you aware there is a Carew family which was nobility. It was connected to my tree for a time but turned out one of my connecting ancestors was not accurate. Elizabeth Carew c.1518-c.1618 m. Robert Drury. Elizabeth's lineage draws back to the Plantagenet Kings, King Edward III, II, I, etc, if memory serves me. Sir Nicholas Carew is one of the most famous. Not saying you are connected but it can be fun to check.
That said, I have Reilly in my tree, though not directly and not anyone you mentioned. I just thought I'd throw it out at you. My possible 4x-great-grandmother Honor Farmer had a brother, Nicholas (or possibly Nicholai) Farmer. Nicholas, 1778 Ireland - 8 Apr 1845 Killallon, Westmeath, Ireland first married Margaret Moyne 23 Feb 1803 Clonmellon Parish, Meath/Westmeath. Margaret died 28 Feb 1825, Newtown, Westmeath, Ireland. Nicholas second married ROSE REILLY, May 1839, Clonmellon Parish, Meath/Westmeath, Ireland. March 1845 Rose gave birth to son Nicholas. Father Nicholas Farmer died a month later on 8 Apr 1845, Killallon, Westmeath, Ireland. Most of this was from parish records but not all, and I can't tell you where I got that which is not parish records, sorry.
Farmer is my mtDNA haplogroup. I am DNA tested to both autosomal and full sequence mtDNA, if you have anyone to match DNA with. Good luck with it.
