Hi from Aus. I am researching my Great Great Great Grandfather William Birmingham who migrated to Australia in 1857. His obituary says he was born in Mullingar in 1831. Any information on him would be most wellcome.

Thank you

Cam

    Welcome to ireland Reaching Out!

Do you happen to know his parents names? I checked Roots Ireland and there were four William Bermingham baptisms on their data base around 1831: two in 1827, one in 1832 and one in 1833. Below is the transcription of the 1832 record.

  • Cameron:

I searched Roots again and none of those records I located were for your William.

We did not discuss religious affiliation but Roots only has RC records for Mullingar back to 1831 and earlier. if the family was C of I then the Mullingar records do not begin until 1849.

  • Hi Roger, William was R Catholic and buried in the RC part of the cemetery. There were I think 3 Birmingham families living in the Casion area QLD. The other 2 seem to have come from Cork.  So it is a puzzle.

    Thanks for looking

    All the best

  • Hi Cam:

I will  forward this post to a volunteer in the Mullingar area who might be able to help.  You might consider creating an Ancestor profile for one of the Birmingham family members on the XOChronicles if you have not already done so.  The link is here:

The best of luck with your research.

    Kind regards,
