I am trying to find information on RICHARD RIGNEY BRENNAN born in Mulligar c 1805. He married Bridget Collins born 1815 in Clonard, Co Meath.
They emigrated or were sent to Australia in 1836, arriving in Feb 1837. They died in the 1880s in Mudgee, New South Wales.
Richard was the son of Richard Brennan and Elizabeth Rigney.
I welcome all information on them, their ancestors and their descendants.
Many thanks.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking for inforamtion on Richard in church records?
Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may be helpful is the irishtimes website, where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Mullingar follow this link:
As you can see from that page, the records in Mulingar go back to 1742-this is very fortunate as generally records prior to 1800 are very hard to come by!
For Church of Ireland records you can check:
http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
http://www.nationalarchives.ie/
http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history/family_history_key_sources.htm
Also, Catholic and Church of Ireland Records are currently being uploaded to www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html free of charge. However, this is an ongoing project so not all records are available yet.
You could also check the land records for some record of Richard' s parents. There are two:
THe Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
You mentioned in your message that they emigrated or were "sent to Australia", were they convicted of a crime and sent over or did their family send them over? If they were convicted, records of convicted criminals sent from Ireland to Australia can be found at www.nationalarchives.ie
Some other websites which may help you in your research are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
CENSUS RECORDS : http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Family Search: https://familysearch.org/
I hope that this helps. Remember to post as much information as you can about the people you are researching. This makes it more likely that one of our volunteers may be able to help you.
Kind regards,

Hi,
I realise that your post has been up for many years and you may no longer be looking for information, but I hope you will get in touch.
I have been doing some research on my ancestry and family tree, and I was looking for immigration information for both sides of my family. Richard Rigney Brennan is my Great Great Grandfather. I knew his son, my great grandfather, Richard Brennan, in Wellington, NSW, and all of his and Muriel's Children. His son, My Grandfather, Don Campion Brennan, is currently still living and has 3 living children.
I would really love to find out more about my family in Ireland, and share what I know from my family's stories. I hope you will get in touch.
Thanks and regards,
Anita

Hello Anita, I know you wrote back in May of this year but I've only just seen your message.
I don't know if you have read "Quarantined! The 1837 Lady Macnaughton Immigrants" by Perry McIntyre and Elizabeth Rushen published by Anchor Books Australia in 2007. The ISBN number is 978-0-9803354-0-8.
Pages 73-75 give a a lot of detail of Richard Brennan's journey from Ireland to Australia with a list of the family.
I don't know if you are in Australia, Ireland or somewhere else. But if you are in Ireland, I'm trying to trace any living descendants of Richard Rigney Brennan so if you have any information of them, I'd be grateful.
Best wishes
Brendan Martin
