Hi!
I'm looking for more informations about my ancestors Rose McDunn (b.1812 around Mullingar, from what I know...) and her parents Thomas McDunn and Frances (said to be McDunn too)... Some sources saying that they were born around 1785, some others saying 1775... So I don't know which one is right...
I don't know when they left for Canada, but Rose married a man here in 1835. It is said that they left together, but we don't know where the parents landed...Or if they died during the journey... Want to know more about them and their family...
If someone can help me, it would be much appreciated!!! I'm stucked there in my family tree for a couple years already... Hahaha!
Thanks
Jany

Hi Jany,
Thanks for your message, i hope that someone with information contacts you and helps you to get past this block!
Luckily records from Mullingar parish have quite an early start date so you may be able to find something relevant to your family. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Mullingar parish, follow this link:
You could also try searching at www.rootsirland.ie However there is a fee to view records on this site. Here is a list of what they have online:

I did a few searches for McDunn at the above site, and also on the Irish Times surname database (http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ ) however no results for McDunn are coming back-only Dunn/Dunne it is possible that this is the vaiariation that was used while they were living here.
The only McDunns recorded in the land record known as the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) are in Roscommon:
The later Griffith?s Valuation (1848-64) has only one, in Down:
It may be an idea to search the above records for Dunn or possibly Dunne.
There is a Dunn recorded in 1776 in Mullingar on the FLax Growers list:
