We have just returned back from an OE and which we spent only a few days in Ireland.
We went to the Representative Church Body office in Dublin and found some information on my x3Great Grandfather, at least I think it is him in a Book of United Paishes of Portlemon and Portnashangan - Vestry Book.
My search is now is prove this is who I am hoping he his. I haven't found any birth records of him, maybe from another county.
My x2Great Grandmother was Lucinda Catherine Wilson and married Robert David Dagg in Portnashangan Parish 1849. On their marriage certificate it shows that Henry Wilson is her father.
Now back to these records we found, Henry Wilson was Vestry Clerk, Parish Clerk and then Church Warden . These positions he held from 1829 - 1855. He was appointed Church Warden in 1848.
I am presuming this is Lucindas father as she got married in that very parish.
We also established that the church held its annual meeting at Easter each year and his name is in the church minutes every year from 1829 and at the annual meeting of Easter 1856 his name gone with a note he has gone to America. Now another question, where??
In recent research I have come across a passport application to enter USA for Henry Wilson in 1856 which indicates to me being the same person.
His daughter Lucinda and husband came to New Zealand in 1856 and settled here. He had another daughter Maria who married William Powell, they went to Canada, no dates but she came to New Zealand a few years later on her own and lived with Lucinda and Robert until her death.
All this ties in with previous communication with Ireland Reaching Out.
Hoping you can help with my questions?
Kind regards
