Hi,
I've finally traced a branch of my family to a specific location in Ireland: Street Parish! (The records I used have all been purchased first on Scotland's People and now Roots Ireland).
These pieces of information come from Roots Ireland documents:
Baptisim of Edward Galligan:
Edward Galligan, baptised 07-Sep-1835, Streete, Co. Longford, demoniation:RC to parents Patrick Galligan and Brigid MacManus. Father's occupation, not recorded. (Sponsor 1: Charles Galligan, Sponsor 2: Ann Galligan)
Marriage of Patrick Galligan & Brigid MacManus:
04-Feb-1823 , Streete, Co. Longford, Roman Catholic, bachelor and spinster, names of parents not recorded (Witness 1: Michael Gaughney, Witness 2: Brigid Gaughney)
* I found one listing for a Patt Galligan in Street, in the Tithe Applotment Book, but I'm not sure what this information means exactly
- I don't have any birth or death information for Patrick or Brigid. Will it be possible to trace them without the names of their parents, or to find the names of their parents?
- I have a record for Edward getting married in Dundee in 1864. I can't tell if it says his parents, Patrick and Brigid, are deceased by this point or not. The record is difficult to read.
- I don't have any information for the years between Edward being baptized in 1835 in Street and getting married in Dundee in 1864. I have all the information for him following his marriage.
- Can the names of the sponsors and witnesses help me find anything?
- Are there cemeteries transcribed online for the area of Street Parish?
Any advice or information would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Street is a parish that is part in Co. Longford and a larger part in Co. Westmeath. Based on the records you found the RC church was likely on the Longford side.
I looked in the 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Street in both counties. There was a Thomas Galligan in Milkernagh townland in Westmeath but no Patricks in either county. If he was alive, possibly he only had a small amount of land and was not in the Griffiths.
The Tithe data from 1826 is important. It shows that a Patrick Galligan was leasing a little more than 2 acres of land in Corralanna townland which is in Co. Westmeath a stones throw from Co. Longford. If you have Google Maps enter Corralanna and you will see where it is located. Milkernagh is just up the road from Corralanna.
This Patrick could very well be the father of Edward.
I did locate a civil death index record for a Patrick galligan born in 1800 who died in 1873. Possibly this is the same Patrick. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. if you want to get a copy, let me know and I will forward instructions.

Thank you for the quick and detailed reply, Roger.
If you think the civil death index record is worth purchasing, I will do so.
On roots ireland, I found burial index records for Patrick Galligan in 1846 and 1855, no ages listed, in Longford. I haven't purchased either of those, but could do so if it would be worthwhile.
I don't think I'll get much further back on this line of my tree, I didn't expect to even get this far. I'm going to start researching the area and what life was like to include in my family tree printouts. Do you know of any historical and photographical resources online?
When I eventually visit Ireland, are there specific cemeteries for Street Parish that could be of help?
Thanks again & Best.

There is a Longford Historical Society. They have a Facebook page.
Street RC parish is part of the diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise. if you go to this link, You will see Street at the very bottom of the page. http://www.ardaghdiocese.com/mapper/diocesanmap.htm
Hit the link for Street and a form pops up and you can send a message asking about the cemetery.
I provided the instructions below in case you want to get the record. It is hard to tell if this is the correct Patrick Gilligan. The death record would show the date of death, age provide by the informant, cause of death and the informant's name and sometimes the relationship of the informant to the deceased.

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
