Seeking info on Thomas Bernard Cosgrave, born 21 Dec 1834 in what is listed here as Ballasalla, Cty. Wexford. I wonder if this is a mangling of Ballynaslaney? He left Ireland as a teenager. There is a story that he was a lay brother in an Irish monastery which closed because of the hard times.
His parents were John Thomas Cosgrave and Catherine O'Connor. he had two brothers, Jerry or Jeremiah and Martin, and one sister, name unknown. He is my great grandfather.

I think you are looking for Ballysillagh townland in Edermine parish. In the 1901 census there were five families in the townland including two Cosgrave families.
