Hi

I am looking for any information regarding my gr gr grandparents, Hugh Daly married Ellen Redmond on 18th July 1869 in Monagear. They had 4 children, Catherine, Aiden ( my Gr grandad) James and Michael. They lived around the Ferns area but I cant find any burial records. Hugh Died Aug 24th 1930, I think his fathers name was Aiden and he had a brother James. Any Information would be helpful.

  • The civil marriage record for Hugh and Ellen gives a little more detail - Hugh's father was also named Hugh, occupation labourer, and Ellen's father was James, also a labourer. Hugh jnr. is shown as a widower so his 2nd marriage. The couple both 'signed' with their marks - so probably illiterate. See the first marriage entry

Very few Catholic parishes recorded burials so locating where burials took place can be difficult. Many headstones have been transcribed on websites like findagrave etc so worth checking these. Local newspapers may have included a death notice which would often include details of the church and graveyard to be used - nearest large towns would be Enniscorthy or Ferns.

I'll have a look and see if I can find out any further details...

Hugh and Ellen also had another child:

    Ellen Jane Daly

    Bap. 06-Jun-1880

Lived in the townland of Ballatracey

Bap in the Catholic parish of Monageer in Co. Wexford

Sponsors were James Redmond and Catherine Redmond

    From rootsireland.ie

There were two sons called James, one born in 1875, the other in 1878. The first James must have died.

  • Many thanks Shane Wilson and Patricia, this is a great help.

The Daly family most used names were Hugh, Aidan and Ellen Jane, My own Nanna was called Ellen Jane Daly after her sister who died the year before she was born.

    Regards
