Hello,
I would be very appreciative of any information that you maybe able to provide regarding a Mr. Timothy Cullen of Ennisorthy, Wexford, Ireland.
I've been able to retrieve a copy of an Australian marriage certificate (attached) for Timothy's son, Michael Cullen, who was married in Australia in 1892.
From this certificate I can see Timothy was married to a lady by the name of Mary Lee. Further research via '''Roots Ireland'' indicates this marriage took place on the 26 November 1857 in Enniscorthy, Wexford, Ireland. Also, a child born to this marriage in 1860 - Anastasia Cullen (in addition to Michael discussed above). The marriage certificate lists Timothy's occupation as a Farmer & Hotelkeeper.
So far, its been really tough finding anything much else on this family.
I'm keen to learn the names of Timothy's parents in addition to any other siblings he might of had. Also, whether their was anymore children from Timothy's marriage to Mary Lee and the timing of their move to Australia (if at all, as perhaps this trip was undertaken just by their son Michael).
Thank you for your help.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
One of the problems with using Roots Ireland for Co. Wexford is that only 13 (including Enniscorthy) RC parishes out of 47 parishes are on their data base. It is possible that the family moved to a different parish sometime after Anastasia was baptized. I guess it is also possible that the whol family emigrated and maybe Michael was born in Australia? Civil registration started in Ireland in 1864. I just searched www.irishgenealogy.ie for civil births of Michael Cullen from 1864-1872 and four records came up but none with a father Timothy.
I also searched Find My Past and did not see a baptismal record for Michael in Enniscorthy either pre-1864 or 1864 and later. I expanded the search to other parishes with no success.
Here is a link to the parish register for Enniscorthy http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0593 In addition to baptisms and marriages, there are three other important documents on this file. First they have deaths from 1815-1880. Second, they have confirmations from 1848-1880 and finally they did a census in the town in April 1861. I know it is tedious but I would scan this parish register for possible clues on your Cullens.
Let me know if you have questions. Also, have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

I apologise for asking a question instead of answering yours - however, I have held back previously with genealogy only to later find that there is a connection;-)
I have a new DNA match with a lady who has provided the following information: her grandparents are Michael Quinn and Anne Cullen who married C1898 and had a daughter Johanna Quinn. Anne died c1947. Johanna married John Joseph O'Brien c1896-c1958. Johanna bn c 1898-1979 they had 11 children - 7 are deceased, 3 still live Enniscorthy and 1 England. My contact knows nothing more of her family. She is reportedly a second cousin once removed to me. Do you have enough information to know if this Anne Cullen is of the same family? Kind regards
Clemmie

Thanks Clemmie,
I was thinking Anne Cullen could be a sister of Timothy, but then the dates don't seem to work?

Hi Roger,
Thanks very much for your help.
Must admit I haven't really considered DNA testing.
Thanks again
