The U.S. descendants of Bernard & Ellen Redmond Leary of County Wexford, are hoping to identify their Irish roots.  This is what we know at this time:

Bernard Leary married Ellen Redmond sometime before 1835 (This guess is based on their children's approximate birthdates.)  The marriage would have been in a Roman Catholic Church, Their children would have been baptized as Roman Catholics.

Ellen Redmond was born about 1810 in Ireland.

No birthdate for Bernard Leary - based on Ellen's birthdate, perhaps 1800 - 1812?

The following individuals are children of Bernard & Ellen Redmond Leary. All children were born in Ireland.

John Leary was born about 1835.

Ellen Leary was born about 1837.

James Leary was born about 1839.

Andrew Leary was born about 1840.

Cornelius Leary was born about 1844.

Andrew Leary died in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, USA in 1865.  The inscription on his tombstone states that he was a native of Parish Donaghmore, County Wexford.  I received help from Col from the Parish Donaghmore site; he found no trace of Bernard Leary, Ellen Redmond Leary, or any of their children.  So the search continues....

Using the Tithe Applotment Books database, I found a Bernard Leary occupying land in Tomisilla, Parish Kiltennell, County Wexford.  It appears that Bernard was not a common Leary forename in the early or mid 1800's in Ireland.  I believe that this may be helpful in the search for our Irish roots.  The question is now:  Is this our Bernard Leary, his father, a cousin, or no connection to us at all?

We do not know when the family emigrated from Ireland to the US.  We don't know if they came together or more likely arrived one or two at a time. Two of the children, John and James fought side by side for the Union Cavalry in our Civil War (1861-1865.)  Unfortunately James died of malaria only one month before he would have been discharged in 1865.

Bernard Leary probably died in 1862. It is not clear if he died in Ireland or the US.

I would greatly appreciate any help/suggestions related to this search.
