IrelandXO was an enormous help to me with my County Galway family, and we connected in person there last summer. I am hoping for a new find now in County Wexford on another branch of my tree recently developed.
Edward (possibly middle name of James) REDMOND married Mary CULLEN, likely about the mid to late 1820s. Some researchers have noted both families' roots in County Wexford, possibly in or near Inch, although without any clear support for those indications. All of their known children were born in Ireland between about 1838 and 1848 - Thomas, Bernard, Mary, Michael, Catherine, Anna, Margaret Ann, Bridget. There is a passenger list with Mary Cullen Redmond arriving in Baltimore in early 1850 with the children, aged 2 to 12. Husband Edward was not listed, suggestive of him emigrating in advance. That manifest also names a Bryan Redmond, age 22, born about 1828.
Several of the REDMOND children married Irish emigrants, a few from the same general neighborhood where they settled in the US, in Richmond, Virginia. All of the males were stonecutters by occupation. Whether there is any possibility those families also emigrated from the same area as the Redmonds is not known, although one is noted in some online notes as being from Inch. Those individuals include James F. NOWLAN (reportedly born in Inch), Mary BURK, James LEARY, Michael DUNN, Patrick RYALL.
Since all of the births occured prior to the civil records availability, I am hopeful of identifying possible parishes for further research. They were a Catholic family.
Is this a pipe dream?
I am awaiting the death certificates of both Edward and Mary Redmond, who both died in Virginia in 1859 and 1878 respectively, although am not hopeful of any significant detail on their parents being contained in those documents.
Any ideas or directives would certainly be appreciated.
Best regards,
Pat Grady

Dear Pat
I see there is a baptism for a Bryan Redmond in Co. Wexford on rootosireland.ie but it is in 1817. I think with this, in lieu of actual parish records a lot of assumptions could be made. There is no way for example, of knowing if that Bryan is you ancestor?s brother, even factoring in the difference is estimated year of birth. Unfortunately I can?t see a marriage for any of the counties listed on the rootsireland site for an Edward Redmond and a wife named Cullen.
As you already know there are a lot of Redmond families in the south east as shown in the link below:

I checked Slater?s Directory for Wexford on the off-chance that as stone masons/cutters they were listed but without success:

I wonder would a subscription to Irish Newspaper Archives be of any use to you? It is a very long shot but you never know, perhaps they were mentioned for some reason?

While there is an assumption that Inch may be a place of birth, records for the corresponding RC Parish of Clongeen don?t begin until 1847.
I would be interested to know what detail is included on the death certificates you mention. Would you let us know when you receive them?
Best wishes

Clare, thanks so much.
I will likely subscribe to the Irish Newspaper Archives. Maybe just maybe there is a nugget to be found, if not for this family, perhaps for my other Irish families, predominately in Counties Roscommon and Galway.
I pulled the Baptism record you noted. That Bryan Redmond was the child of Michael Redmond and Ellen Cavanagh in Kildermot Parish. Given the age difference, he is not likely my Edward's contemporary; perhaps his father Michael was. Seems a working hypothesis anyway, on the assumption there was some relationship given he was travelling with the Edward Redmond family.
I am a bit confused by geography though. Are there two distinct towns called Inch? I see one in the very northern edge of Co. Wexford just at the Wicklow border, not far from the coast. Another appears to be well south of that, just a bit northwest of New Ross.
I did receive the death certs for both Edward Redmond and Mary Cullen Redmond, and not surprisingly, they had no information about either's parents. In fact, in Mary's situation, not even a cause of death was noted. Very basic, basically just name and date of death. Oh well. Nothing beats a trial but a failure. Will keep plugging away and maybe something will eventually emerge.
Regards,
Pat

Hi Pat
You will see from this link that there are quite a few instances of Inch throughout the country:
