  • Hi Terry,

Thank you for your message. I hope that someone with information contacts you and helps you to find out more about your Irish heritage.

In the meantime have you tried searching for any records pertaining to the family at:

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

I did a search for Tennants in Griffith?s Valuation. This is a property valuation survey carried out 1848-64. The only Tennants recorded in Wexford are http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&Submit.x=46&Submit.y=20&Submit=Submit&familyname=tennant&firstname=First+Name&baronyname=&countyname=WEXFORD&unionname=&parishname=

These were recorded in 1853 and there is no way of knowing at this point if they are related to your Tennants. However these parishes may be a starting point for your search.

Some other websites that you may find useful are:

  • Greatly appreciate contribution by Jack Mcdonald. It is quite possible that my Great Grand father could have been a member of this family.

I note that the parents and one daughter all passed away in the early 1830's Only a first born son survived to an age of 86..  Something traumatic must have caused my Grandfather to leave Ireland and then never to leave our family with any historical background.

My great Grand Father born Wexford 6/11/1811  departed Ireland sometime in the mid to late 1830's.His actual arrival time in South Africa is unknown. We do know that in about 1840 he married Sarah Liversage in the Eastern Cape near Grahamstown. The name of his first born whic was a daughter was Elizabeth. - may be after a sister in Ireland.

Further investigation may reveal a connection with this family.

    Thanks  Terry Pullinger
