Looking for information on the births and parents of John Sinnot and Mary Davis who were married at St. Aidan's Catholic Church, Enniscorthy, Wexford 17 January 1808. Based on their ages when they died in Monroe County, Illinois John was born about 1773 and Mary about 1777.
They had at least four children who were baptized at St. Aidan's also - Mary baptized 22 June 1808, Ellen baptized 30 April 1814, James baptized 1 May 1817, and Anna baptized April 2 1820.
John, Mary, Ellen, Mary and James emigrated to the US by 1834 when Ellen married in Boston. Family stories say that there were 8 girls but no evidence has been found of any other daughters. There is no evidence that Anna emigrated with them.
Looking for suggestions on where else to search or any information on the family.
So far Y DNA hasn't produced any close matches.
Thanks
Barbara

Barbara:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Records for Enniscorthy RC parish go way back to 1790 but that is not far enough for John Sinnott and Mary Davis. So no record would be available. The only baptismal records I located were for Ellen, James, and Anna. I did not find Mary.

Thanks Roger I found the baptismal records for all the kids on the NLI website. I was hoping there might be other records like directories, land records, etc. that I might be able to find.

Hi Barbara:
Thanks for your email.
You might consider creating some Ancestor profiles for members of this family. You can do so through this link:
https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database
As Roger said, it is very early, and it may be a case of trying to trace the family forward and looking at others who may have resided nearby in Monroe County, and who may have had a family connection with these ancestors. Church records can be very helpful in the U.S. for the baptisms of any children born to this couple. Census records can also be helpful by lookiing at the other families who lived next-door or very close by. If they took out naturalisation papers, it also might give further information.
I would also recommend that if you believe that any of the children remained in Ireland (or emigrated elsewhere), you might try to trace them forward.
Did any of the emigrants have death notices? Often those death notices give information about them as to where they came from, other family members, etc.
Have you checked Irish Genealogy for any civil death records for either John Sinnot and/or Mary Davis Sinnot? If they died after 1864, a civil death record might be helpful as to where they were living, who noted the death, and other information.
If you need any further information, please let us know. The Irish Genealogy website link is: http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/
Kind regards,
Jane

Did you check Brian Cantrell's Memorials for the Dead? There are many Sinnotts and similar listed in Wexford cemeteries that I noted while at the NLI in 2013 recording my Keatings in the 4 volumes that cover Wexford. The volumes are available online at https://iancantwell.com/BrianCantwellMemorials.php and maybe FindMyPast, etc.

Barbara -- In 1999, I visited in Wexford, and one of my hosts was John Synnott, who was described as the unofficial genealogist of the area around Parknashogue, Gorey. He was able to provide me with data regarding my Weadick ancestors of that area back into the mid-1800s and a bit beyond. He was an elderly man at the time. If he is still living, I should think you might be able to contact him through some Wexford genealogical society, or, if not, by writing to the pastor of Mary, Star of the Sea parish in Ballygarret. -- Griff Crump

Thanks for the info
Jane - I have both the civil and church death records for both John and Mary, they both died in Monroe County, Illinois and there is no info about their families. There were no obituaries for them in the local papers. None of the children remained in Ireland. They all emigrated and I have the obituaries of all of them and there is no information about the family.
jward thanks for the info, I'll check it out.
Griff thanks for the info, I'll see if I can get in touch with him.

Barbara -- I confused a couple of trips in my post regarding John Synnot. Actually, I met him in Wexford as late as about 2009. So, the odds of still finding him might be better. -- Griff Crump
