We are looking for information on a Mathew/Matthew Murphy (b1762-63) and wife Mary O'Neill Murphy who emigrated to Prince Edward Island in 1811, we believe directly,  from County Wexford  (Ross/New Ross area) or County Carlow. Mathew would have been nearly 50 at the time. We do not know Mary's date of birth. We have not been able to find a marriage record in Co Wexford. We assume she was a first wife, but that may not have been so.

An Irish researcher noted that there was a shipbuilding O'Neill family in County Carlow but we have not been able to find any threads to that effect. The Murphys came with one son Michael P (Peter). Despite much online searching we have not found a birth record; he died in 1866, in PEI, at the age of 73 making his date of birth ~1792-94.

A younger boy, our GG grandfather, Peter, was part of the family coming to  PEI; we believe Peter was born ~1806. He was raised by Matthew and Mary and  DNA evidence shows that  we, Peter's descendants, are related to Michael P's descendants via autosomal (both male and female) genetic material. Y-DNA results point to Peter probably being born to a daughter of Matthew and Mary by a Kavanagh husband (?) and father., making him a nephew of  Michael P.

We much want to find the family's pre-emigration history, townland of origin, etc., and would appreciate any help that anyone can offer.
