Hello,
I am looking for information on Maurice (Morris) Shane Jr. (Born between 1808-1811 in Co. Wexford, Ireland) & his wife, Rose Byrnes (Born in Co. Antrim; not sure of the year). Rose was his first wife; he later married Mary McLean, but I'm not sure if that happened while still in Ireland or after emigrating to Canada. Maurice would've emigrated to Canada sometime before 1858, as that is the year his son, Alexander Maurice (who is my great-grandfather), was born in Ontario, Canada. Maurice's parents were Maurice Shane Sr. & Anne Byrnes (from Co. Wexford) - but I'm not sure where in Co. Wexford. If anyone has any information on this family & where in Co. Wexford they come from, I'd appreciate it if you could message me. I'd also like to know if I have any living relatives in Ireland that I might connect with. I am hoping to visit Ireland someday, & would like to visit the areas from which my ancestors came.
Thank you very much!

Hi again Wendy
If you go to www.rootsireland.ie there is a baptism record for a Maurice ?Shean? in 1808 in Co. Wexford. As it is a subscription site, I am limited in what I can see, but as there is only one record it would be a good idea to have a look. There doesn?t seem to be a marriage record for a Maurice Shane at all, except in in late 1870s early 1880s which is not relevant. On that site there is also a baptism record for a Rose Byrne born in Co. Down in 1813 but there is no way of knowing if this is your Rose. As you can see, Antrim and Down are neighbouring counties so it may be relevant:

Have a look and let me know what you think.
Best wishes

Thanks, Clare. I tried registering & looking, but you have to pay money to see any details on that site, so I didn't pursue it further. I do appreciate your help, though. If I find anything elsewhere, I'll let you know. Take care & best wishes!

Hello Wendy,
You and I are related - I am also descended from Maurice Shane and Anne Byrnes, but through Maurice Jr.'s older brother John's line.
I was able to find a birth record for their younger brother Moses through the rootsireland site. Moses was born in Kilanerin Parish in Wexford, which is near Inch, Gorey. (For some reason Kilanerin Parish itself is not listed as a parish on this site, so I have joined the Inch, Gorey parish site.) The last name on the birth certificate was Sheehan, not Shane, but I am pretty certain it is the same family since the father was Maurice Sheehan and the mother was (illegible) Byrne. Also, the John Ryan and Mary Byrne(s) family who emmigrated to the concession next door to the Shanes in Pendleton had twin boys - Patrick and Denis - and their birth record was also registered in Kilanerin.
You may have already found out other details through ancestry.ca, but Maurice and Anne emmigrated to Canada with their family in 1817, when Maurice Jr. was about 9 years old; therefore he would have married in Canada. I don't know if he was born in Kilanerin parish (the only birth record for the family that I was able to find -- though I searched all the counties -- was that of Moses) but he would have lived there before coming to Canada.
Warm wishes,
Sharon Shane
