Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Do you know where in Co. Carlow Charles and Mary were born or lived? Civil registration did not begin in Ireland until 1864, prior to this it was only the churches that kept such records. Most of these records are still held locally-so as you can see it is important to know what parish they came from in order to determine what church registers to look into.
Do you have any other information such as their parent's names, names of any siblings they may have had etc?
Devereux is not a very common name in Ireland. If you run it through the irishtimes surname search engine, you can see how many households in Ireland had the name in the mid 19th century-only 7 in Carlow. You can see the results here:

If you know Mary's parent's names you can do a search for them in the Tithe Applotment Books. These are land records were compiled between 1823 and 1837 in order to determine the amount which occupiers of agricultural holdings should pay in tithes to the Church of Ireland. If you can find them in this it will give you a parish name. Once you have this, you will know what Church records to search for. I have already ran the surname through the database for Carlow and here are the results that came back:

Hello my name is John O'Brien, from Saskatchewan, Canada. Charles and Mary O`Brien are my great great great grandparents. Charles was born in 1803 and passed away in 1884, Mary was born in 1802 and passed away in 1890 in Renfrew, Ontario. Ive found some baptism records for Cathrine, and Mary in the Barrough baptism records of Clonegal. There are also decendants of Nicholas Roach near to where we live. I think we are looking for the same people!
