My ancestor was William Kennedy born in Ireland in 1740 immigrated to Mass. around 1760.  He married Catherine Butler born in 1745 in Boston, Suffork Co., Mass in 1762.  He was Loyalist or from what I've read just tired fighting.  He and his family fled to Canada around 1782.  They were one of the first homesteaders in Douglastown, Gaspe, Quebec.

I don't know where to look for William Mulrooney's or Catherine Butler's families in Ireland.  Any help would be very much appreciated.

I have just replied to your previous messages. In some ways the advice remains the same - try to use whatever sources there are in your ancestor's 'adopted country' to fill out your overall information.

Unfortunately, it is very frustrating when your search requires access to early records. Church of Ireland parish records generally begin earlier than those of the Roman Catholic parishes in Ireland, so you may be lucky. However, knowing a specific place of birth really provides a great focus. You could try locating a record in the sites suggested below:

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

I also include a link to Wexford sources that you may find useful:

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search
