Hi,

I am looking for the parents of Mary Teresa(Kate) Kelly. She was born in Co Kerry c 1877.

On her marriage cert in Dublin 1893 she states that her parents are.

Thomas Kelly and Hanora Murphy place of residence Wexford.

On the marriage her name is down as Kenny, but on all the children's birth certs she is down as Kelly.

Have recently found a piece of paper that my Grandmother wrote (Mary's daughter) stating that Thomas died

of a bee sting to the face and her Hanora had remarried. There is no name for the second marriage.

Hoping that something might be found.

  • Hi Sue,

Could you please post your query on the County Kerry page here: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/county-kerry

Have you found these birth, marriage certs through civil or church records? Did any of them state a more precise location for any of them? If I knew their precise place of origin, I could then recommend the church records to check.

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864 however. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

Did they all remain in Ireland? If not, who left and what date, place, etc.?

Where did you find the piece of paper and do you know who wrote it or when?

Have you tried checking other family documents for clues, such as family bibles, letters, etc.?

Have you tried checking the 1901/1911 census for more information (if they or other member of the family remained in Ireland by then)? You can check details here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,
