I am searching for my ancestors Francis Martin 1792-1874 and Ann Jones 1808-1868.  Francis was baptized Church of Ireland, parishes of Ferns/Kilbride/Clone/Ballycarney, County Wexford, Ireland

1792 Sep-05 Francis son of Christopher Martin Elizabeth Griffith 3 days old. Mr.
Chartres Ferns

Frances and Ann were married in 1829 at Castle Bridge (near Wexford Town), Diocese of Ossory, County Wexford, Ireland

According to the following newpaper article, Francis and Ann were living in Kiltrea in 1843:

Wexford, Wednesday, February 7, 1844

No. 1344-Vol., XIII

County of Wexford to Wit.

A List of all the Persons who obtained, at the Quarter Session of the Peace, held at Gorey in said County on the 28th of December, 1843. Licence to keep arms pursuant to 6 and 7 Victoria C. 74,

Francis Martin, Kiltrea

According to the House Book Valuation, their home in

A Valuation record for houses in Templescoby, County Wexford in 1851 shows:

No. 23 Name Francis Martin, a house (vacant) Valued to Amount 0£ 15s 0d

Surname Forename Event Year Date of Valuation Book County Barony Parish Townland Other/Lessor Surname Other/Lessor Forename Martin Francis  21 Aug 1851 House book Wexford Bantry Templescoby Templescoby

Frances and Ann immigrated to Ontario Canada sometime between 1849 when their last child was born and Feb 3 1851 when one of their children died in Ontario, Canada.

I am interested in finding any information on this family but in particular, I would like to find the birth/baptism records of their children and their immigration records.

Children of Francis Martin and Ann Jones (birth dates I have are from Canadian census records and gravestones):

Eliza Jane Martin 1830

John Martin May 9, 1833

Mary Ann Martin 1836

Frances 1838

Christopher 1845

Alicia 1849

As there are several gaps between children, I suspect that there were more children in this family but these are the children who immigrated to Canada.

I would appreciate any assistance or advise you can provide to me regarding this family.  I have had difficulty in finding Church of Ireland records in County Wexford so perhaps you could advise me on that too.

Thank you so much for providing this service.

  • There are very few Church of Ireland records for Co. Wexford online at the moment - RootsIreland currently has partial details for just two parishes, and there are a couple more that cover parts of Co. Wexford included in the transcipts of the Anglican Record Project.

The RCBL (Representative Church Body Library) has a list of the parishes all over Ireland along with details of record availablity see here (pdf document). Many of the historic registers are held by the library, and some CofI records are available in the National Archives.

Official records of people departing the UK and Ireland did not commence until the 1890s, so it's more likely that if any record exists it would be at the port they arrived at.

p.s. the town of Castlebridge was part of the Church of Ireland parish union of 'Ardcavan & Ardcolm' or sometimes refered to as just Ardcolm, and in the Diocese of Ferns.(The diocese of Ossory covered an area to the north west of Co. Wexford in counties Kilkenny,  Laois and Offaly.)

I just by chance can across your post from 2017 regarding Francis Martin 1792 and Ann Jones. These would be my Great -Great - Grand parents on my mothers side (Isabel Martin). If you are still looking for information on the family get back to me and I may be able to fill in some details for you. Also, If you are on Ancestry I have my family tree posted as Crozier-Kelly family tree.
