Edward Conway was a miner who married Letitia or Lucy Hall at Avoca 01 January 1812. The couple had at least six children, James, 24 February 1814; Edward, 28 December 1816; John, 31 December 1818; Andrew, 06 July 1821; Sarah, 10 August 1823; and Ann, 08 March 1827. All Catholics. On 20 August 1847 John married Mary Kennedy from Clare at Avoca. John was also a miner. In 1852 he emigrated with his wife and two small children, Lucy and Edward, to Australia, where he worked in the mine at Newcastle NSW. John and Mary had a large family, and have many descendants now living in the Newcastle area.

Hello Philip, I have just seen your message and as I am trying to find more about my CONWAY relatives was very interested to see that they came from AVOCA. This seems to be a very small place so although on first glance non of your family names match any of mine you never can be sure.
My family starts as far as I know with Michael Conway, nothing known as he died in England sometime after 1825 but had at least two children James born 1810 witness Bernard Conway, and John 1812 in ireland since joining the site I find that they were possibly born in AVOCA,(couln't find a baptism for John). a MICHAEL CONWAY married Frances Harris (I was looking for a Francis Harrison) 27th Feb 1810 by 1820 the family were living in Bolton in Lanca shire and had two daughters Maria 1820 and Ann1825. Sometime afterwards his wife Frances married again to William Curry(Currie) and had another daughter Mary Curry(Currie) in 1834.
The family then moved to Newcastle on Tyne in the north of England where Frances married again. She lived to be 101. According to her obituary she had 22 children. There was one other baptism for a child to Michael Conway and Frances Harris , Joseph bapt. 27th Aug 1815 Avoca.
As far as I know most of the descendants of this family are all living in England, one or two are further afield.
