Hello, I am trying to confirm that my ggg grandfather William Morgan and his son Thomas Morgan are from Dunlavin.
William was born in and died in Ireland (1806-June 1878, family tradition). His wife was Mary Staufort (or possibly Stafford?). Mary "Staufort" was the name given Thomas' mother as listed on Thomas' death certificate in Pennsylvania, USA by his son and my great grandfather Michael Morgan, but it may have been incorrectly transcribed by the data entry person so it may actually be "Stafford."
According to family tradition, in addition to my gg grandfather Thomas, William Morgan had several children including William, Michael and James, but nothing is known of them.
Thomas may have been born between 1848 (date listed on his gravestone in Pennsylvania) and March 1851 (month and year noted in 1900 U.S. Census).
Thomas married Margaret Quigley on 25 Sep 1871 in Cleator, Cumberland, England. I have the record, which came from www.freebmd.org.uk.
According to the U.S. Census in 1900, 1910 and 1920, Thomas emigrated to the United States in 1882 or 1883.
RootsIreland has two listings for Thomas Morgan born within 5 years of 1848. One listing shows birthdate on 29 Mar 1852 (Dunlavin; parents listed as William Morgan and Mary, sponsor #1 was James Morgan and sponsor #2 was Anne Fitzpatrick). The other, with birth date of 11 Mar 1849, is from parish Avoca in County Wicklow, parents listed as William Morgan and Mary, sponsor #1 was Patrick Dempsey and sponsor #2 was Catherine Stafford.
The second listing's female sponsor Catherine Stafford may suggest this is the correct listing, BUT a death record for a William Morgan in Dunlavin, also from Roots Ireland, shows a date of birth of 27 Dec 1809, also in Dunlavin. This is apparently the only William Morgan born in Co. Wicklow relatively close to 1806.
I am trying to confirm that my ggg grandfather William Morgan and my gg grandfather Thomas Morgan are from Dunlavin parish in County Wicklow. Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide, and please let me know if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Robert Morgan

Hi Robert,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone who is researching the same family makes a connection with you and helps you confirm your research.
Have you tried looking in the 1901/1911 census records to see if you can find any record of THomas? siblings who may have remained in Ireland. Sometimes these can offer some very useful information, you can search these here:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

Hi Robert,
I have emailed a reply to your email but haven't heard back so wondered whether you received it.
The info you sent me is of my grandmother, Mary Morgan's family. I have some information on the Morgan family which I'll be happy to share with you. And I would be very grateful if you have anything info at all on the Morgans.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Robert,
I am still not sure that our ggrandparents were brothers but it is very likely. The Morgan family in Rathvilly in the 1901 Ireland Census is definitely my grandmother's family so if they belong to the same Morgan family as yours then we are.
I am trying to get a copy of James Morgan & Ellen Fagan's wedding certificate which will show James' parents. That should settle it. I am waiting for the Registry in Ireland to get back to me. I will let you know.
Best wishes,
Marea Whitley
