I am seaching for the family of Julie Canavan married Michael Kearns in wicklow 1845

her death cert in Australia in 1912 says her parents the above couple James and Ettie

could she be the Judith b 1821 to James and Esther?

family always believed she was from Co Clare but no logical Christening to be found.

James and Ettie are included in the names of her children born in Bendigo Australia.

Could some one give me the liklyhood of these name swaps?

and other records in Dunlavin regarding this family I could find.

  • It’s difficult to say whether the two names are interchangeable in Ireland because neither is common in Ireland, or least it wasn’t in the 1800s. There are no Julies in the 1901 Irish census, just 43 Julias and only 1 Judith. (Incidentally, Ettie is often a diminutive of Henrietta.)

    If the lady came from Co Clare and was born c 1821, the most likely reason for not finding her baptism is that the records don’t exist. Very few parishes in Co Clare have baptism records that go back that far. They weren’t keeping any records at that time. You can see the start dates of each parish using this link:
