My great grandfather was baptised in Dunlavin, County Wicklow in May 1848. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1870s. His parents were John Kennedy and Ellen Counihan.

I am looking for descendants residing in Ireland or any factual information that may be available.

Thank you.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked Roots Ireland and there were two baptismal records in the Dunlavin RC church records for possible siblings of Denis. There was a William in 1845 and a James in 1842 born to John Kennedy and a wife named Ellen (no maiden name shown). Here is a link to the online parish register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0475

The 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Dunlavin civil parish only shows a Patrick Kennedy in Loughmogue Upper townland. Possibly he is a relative of John Kennedy.

The 1901 census for the Dunlavin area only shows one Kennedy http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wicklow/Dunlavin/Dunla…

You can check the online Irish phone book http://www.eirphonebook.ie/  which has a small percentage of phone users to see if there are any Kennedys in the Dunlavin area. Make sure you use the Residential Tab.

  • Roger,

Thank you for responding and the useful information you provided. Please excuse my slow response, I was having connectivity issues that I hope are now corrected.

The first reference you shared looks very promising. I will try to research Denis' potential brothers, James and William. Thanks again.

  • Decendants of Counihan Kennedy Dunlavin:

I am a decendant of Patrick Kennedy from Dunlavin.

Some of his children/ decendants moved to Terenure/Rathmines in Dublin and would be interested in discussing further.
