I have a record that Anne Carroll and Felix Joseph Burton were married in Kilquade, Co. Wicklow, on 5 July 1853 in a Roman Catholic ceremony.
I do not know either of Felix's parents names, nor either of Anne's and would welcome any thoughts as to how I might find their roots.
They are my wife's GG Grandparents. She and her mom visited a few years back but focused more on touring than genealogy at the time...
Was Kilquade a parish name then?

Robert:
Kilquade was a townland. Actually there are two townlands with that name in Co. Wicklow. One in Kilcoole parish and the other in Newcastle Lower civil parish. These two parishes are next to each other on the eastern part of Wicklow on the coast. Kilcoole is to the north of Newcastle Lower. Here is a link to the RC churches in the area.http://www.kilquadeparish.com/
In the 1854 Griffiths valuation head of household listing for Kilcoole parish there is a James Burton listed in Johnstown townland. No Burtons listed in Newcastle Lower parish. I also found four Carroll entries in that parish.

These are indeed our relatives. The son Geoffrey from this 1901 census became a Priest and came to the US. He schooled at Mt Melleray Abby, County Waterford, Ireland and was later ordained at St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota.
Thank you so much for this info.

Was daughter of Felix Joseph Burton and Anne Carroll who moved to Amsterdam, NY in the late 1880's. Felix and Anne married 5 Jul 1853 per our records, in Kilquade, Wicklow, Ireland.
Margaret was born in 1856, we think. We have a handwritten note that says she was baptised 14 Jun 1856 in Kilquade.

Felix and Anne Carroll Burton were my wife's GG Grandparents, descendants through their daughter Elizabeth Therese Burton, born 1868 in Wicklow. Most of the family emigrated to Amsterdam NY around 1884/1885. Two daughters, Margaret and Maria, remaining there and eventually marrying. Felix was a tavern proprietor and Anne and daughters started a high-end seamstress/fabric/clothing business in Amsterdam,
Elizabeth married Thomas McKernan, a first generation Irish-American born to John and Bridget McGraw McKernan. We are unsure of John and Bridget's parentage. We have reason to believe John's parents were named Wiliam McKernan and Mary Ross. We do not know where in Ireland they are from.
My wife and her family are/will be excited to hear from you. I will send them your e-mail address so there may be many, many questions. I'm excited to share our records.
Maria [Margaret's sister] married and moved to England. We are in touch with one of her descendants there [Moreton/Nichols/Catherall] there who has documented her path.
