Searching for York Family in Wicklow, Wicklow

The subscription site Roots Ireland has a good number of Yorke baptismal records in Co.Wicklow pre-1855 but no Laurence. Not clear from your note if he was born in Ireland. Do you have other names for family members?

He was born in Wicklow, Wicklow Ireland which I obtained from the 1911 England census. The spelling is Lawrence York.

In the 1901 census the spelling is Lawrence Yorke, b in Ireland.

No Lawrence/Laurence York/Yorke baptismal records anywhere in Ireland until an 1887 record in Co. Meath.

I would start with the marriage cert for your Lawrence if you dont have that already, as it should show his father's name and occupation, and could also have relative as a witnesses to the marriage.

Based on the England Census Returns and the GRO Births Index it appears that your Lawrence was married to a Mary Ann Jackson and she was born in Lancashire.

Based on these clues I located a probable match on FamilySearch with a register image, this shows a marriage of Lawrence York and Mary Ann Jackson on the 15th December 1877 at St. Peter, Bolton-Le-Moors, Lancashire - 'according to the rites and ceremonies of the established church - i.e. Church of England. . The residence for the groom is 21 Harewood St. and for the brides 43 Haylock St, their father's are Laurence York deceased a labourer and Robert Jackson a collier.  The bride & groom both 'signed' with their mark, the witnesses where a David McMcKeag and Maria White (her mark)

Griffith's Valuation took place in Co. Wicklow in around 1854 and search of this for properties occupied by people with the surname York/Yorke shows a number of matches .. but no sign af any Lawrence/Laurence. It's possible this Lawrence snr. was already deceased or was not included in the valuation due to living circumstances - e.g. sharing an address with others, moving around for work etc. Another possibility might be that Lawrence snr. moved to England with his family ...

Thank you so much. I should have mentioned that I have Lawrence's Marriage certificate and also the Griffith's Valuation.

Lawrence the father was already deceased at the time of Jr's marriage.My sense is that the parents may have died during the famine, leaving Jr as an orphan. I had hoped that there was a birth record for Jr.

.Thank you so much for your help. I am no longer able to travel. When I was in Ireland years ago, I wasn't aware that my gr-grandfather was born in Ireland. A pity.
