I have checked a number of websites (familysearch.org, rootsireland.ie. findmypast, Griffiths).
Having always believed my mother's ancestors were from Dublin, I have discovered that they were all from Wicklow.
I have a marriage record for John Roche (Roach) and Elizabeth Grimes in Rathdrum on 13 Feb 1852.
I also have a baptism record for Elizabeth Grimes dated 2 Jan 1836. How old were children when they were baptised in those days? This could make her only 14 when she married - is this possible?
Her parents are listed as James Grimes and Elizabeth (no surname).
Where do I go next?

Anne:
Children were baptized soon after birth. Also, Elizabeth would have been 16 in 1852 which is young for a marriage but not unusual.
The Rathdrum RC records go back to 1817. I did locate a James Grimes baptism in Rathdrum in 1822 on Roots but I don't think that is the father of Elizabeth.
The 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Rathdrum parish shows a John Roche living in Rathdrum Fair Green.

Thanks, Roger.
The Griffiths entry is interesting, because John Roche's daughter married my other ancestor, John Clare, who was also from Fairgreen. The Roche/Clare children got married in Dublin, and the family seems to have lived in Dublin after that.
I also found the 1922 James Grimes baptism, and drew the same conclusion as you, namely that it was not the right one (seemed too young).
Is there anywhere else I can go for this strand of the family? I'm not sure where else I can look.

The only other place to check would be the Tithe listings. www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie
I looked for Grimes in Wicklow. There were 6 entries but only one in Rathdrum parish. An 1825 record for a Widow Grimes in Upper Aughrim townland.
