Hi Joan, We have common ancestors in Peter Lynch and Hannah Mulvihill. My great grandfather was their son Peter Lynch b. 1869 in Redbank, Victoria.

The problem I've encountered in tracing Peter back to Ireland is the conflicting information on both Peter and Hannah's death certificates and Peters travel record.

    1. On the shipping records, Peter is listed as 22 in 1851 which puts his year of birth 1829.

    2. On Peter's death certificate he is listed as age 73 in 1899, which puts his birth in approx 1826

    3. But then on the same death certificate his son was the informant and lists his age at marriage at 21, which he was married in 1852 in South Australia. Which conflicts with the other two points 1 and 2 above.  HIs son also put he was in the colonies for 52 years, which would mean him coming here in 1847.

Peter Lynch doesn't list his parents on any documents here from what I've been able to find so far.

To help sort the above, Im waiting on Peter Lynch and Hannah Mulvihill's marriage certificate from 1852 in Adelaide, South Australia.

I've done a search on Ancestry.com and the below records all come up for a Peter Lynch in Galway.   From what I can see he could be from Tuam, Galway or the entry from Ballinasloe, Galway and Roscommon.

  • Hi , I have found much the same as you, on their marriage certificate age and condition for grooms and bride was full age and bachelor...spinster...no mention of country of birth or parents. On Peter lynch b 1869 birth certificate a place in Galway is mentioned were gg grandfather Peter Lynch may have came from very difficult to read , I contacted Irish translator they said could be Drima East or West which is probably in the area we are looking. Cheers
