  • I am seeking information about the Sheedy family in Tipperary and I was led to believe they lived in Galbally where my ancestors might have been born.

My GGG grandfather was Michael Sheedy he married Margaret Walsh from Galway county (Clare) I believe. My GG Grandfather Patrick was born in Ireland and he came out with his family to work in Australia in 1841

My GG grandparents were Patrick Sheedy and Julia Connolly (Connery) from Tipperary and they migrated to Australia leaving in June and arriving in November 1841 at Sydney Cove aboard the vessel Lascar. They had two or three children with them and they settled in Queanbeyan NSW where the family worked for the farmer who had sponsored them out to Australia.

I am a direct descendant of this family and would value any information on the Irish family then and now.

    with thanks

  • I have no connection with this family but was able to check some parish records in Galbally parish and found the following:

Baptism 31 Mar 1811 Cathy of Michl Sheedy Labourer & Mar----rest illegible Walsh  Sprs Christopher Russell

Baptism Nov 1827 (no day visible as edge of register badly worn) Margaret of Patrick Sheedy and Johanna Connery

Sprs Michael Sheedy & Catherine Connery

2 Oct 1836 Michael of Patrick Sheedy & Johanna Connery

Sprs Michael bergin & Cath Condon

As there were very few  Sheedy surnames in the parish am adding the following as they may well be connected.

9 May 1834 Margaret of John Sheedy & Margaret Dalton

sprs Thomas Ryan & Margaret Hayes

2 October 1836 Bridget of John Sheedy & Margt Dalton

Sprs Patrick Heffernan & Bridget Gleeson

24 Aug 1835 Michael of William Shiedy (spellling as found) & Emelia Magner

Sprs Maurice Holloway & Ellen -- surname illegible

Unfortunately there were no townlands listed with the entries.

Hope this is of some help

    Regards
