Hi I'm seeking some advice. My Great Great Grandfather was born in Rivertown and was baptised in the local Catholic Church. He then emigrated to Australia at a young age with his family. In 1880 he got married in Australia and not long after returned to Sligo area, where my great grandfather was born in 1889, unfortunately my great grandfathers birth was either not registered or his birth registration has been lost and he was not baptised until 1894 in Horsham, Australia when he returned to Australia with his parents. Is it possible to get a historical birth reregistered in Ireland and if so how do I go about it, as I'm trying to help my father register for Irish citizenship, as he is eligible, but can't complete the process without my great grandfathers Irish birth certificate. I've sent an email to HSE, but they have not replied. Anyone got any suggestions.

    Thanks Col,

My great grandfathers name is: Gerald Lawrence Monaghan, born 1889, his father was Patrick Cogan Monaghan, baptised 5th April 1857 in Geevagh, Sligo and his mother was Ellen Monaghan, born Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Gerald is the only one of their children born in Ireland, as they were only back in Ireland for a few years, before returning to Patrick's fathers farm in Horsham Vic, Australia.

I'm not having much luck so far finding Gerald's Irish birth certificate, which I need for my fathers foreign birth registration. It's complicated more by the fact the Gerald was not baptised until they returned to Australia, so that family could attend. So no Irish Baptism record either!

There must be some process to get his birth reregistered in Ireland.

I still have not got a reply from HSE, thanks for suggesting the GRO, maybe I'II have better luck getting a reply from them!

    Kind Regards,

    Michael Monaghan.
