Hi, my name is Mike Dermody living in Nottingham, England.  I'm trying hard to find my ancestral roots in Ireland and the only positive information that I have is of my G. Grandfather Martin Dermody who came to England sometime between 1861 to 1869. He married Mary Connelly in Rugeley, Staffordshire, England at the age of 23 years in 1870 and his fathers name was Patrick.  According to the 1881 England Census he was born in Dunmore, Ireland.

Website rootsireland.ie have a Church Baptism Record for Martin Dermody dated 06 Nov 1845, address Flaskagh, Dunmore, Co Galway, denomination Roman Catholic, father Patrick Dermody, mother Mary Hussey, sponser Bridget Keaveny.

I also found a Church Marriage Record for Patrick Dermody to Mary Hussey dated 13 Jan 1845, parish Dunmore, Co Galway. Witness 1 was William Connor, witness 2 was Margaret Mannion.

I would appreciate it if anyone can give me more information on the Dermody family or point me in the right direction for getting more.

Regards,

Mike

  • Hello Mike

Many thanks for your message. You mention the parish of Dunmore. There are a few parishes of dunmore in Galway. There is one  near Tuam and one near Glenamaddy.

I will try and source what information there maybe on your ancestor and I will be in touch again.

    Regards

    Paula
