I am new to this website, but am seeking out details of our Ancestry from my Great Great grandfather Samuel Irwin Stewart b 1812 D 1902 back to three generations to Hugh Stewart who came out with Sir William Stewart in 1608 from Scotland. Samuel's father was a William Stewart and his father was John Stewart. There may be same history in the Clogher Church where some of the family have been burried

Any assistance would be appreviated, or direction as to where I can obtain further details

Thanks

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Can I assume that your ancestor was Church of Ireland? If this was the case, COI records for the parish of Clogher begin in 1763. This is early in comparison to records of the corresponding Roman Catholic parish of Clogher, where records don?t begin until 1856 for baptisms and 1825 for marriages.  Unfortunately the parish records for Clogher are not available on rootsirleand.ie.   This link will give you details of the records catalogued by the Public Record Office in Northern Ireland: http://www.proni.gov.uk/index_to_church_of_ireland_records-2.pdf

The Representative Church Body Library in Dublin is in the process of providing online access to parish records but so far of the 12 parishes available, Clogher is not one of them:

You should contact the Library here (though the staff can?t conduct research for you) to see if they have any idea when the records might become available:

The Library is located opposite no. 32 Braemor Park.

  • Further to your post of 20 July 2014, I'm also researching Stewarts in Clogher. Which Clogher church are your Stewarts attached to and which townlands did they live in? Perhaps we overlap?
