MY father's grandfather was born in Castleconnel in Limerick . His name was John (sean ) Manning and his father was James Manning .

John was born approx 1850 in Castleconnel , LImerick . family tradition states he was a policeman , But I don't know if this is true.

Any news of the Mannings in Castleconnel would be welcome.

thanks

Veronica

Further to the above message , I know that John Manning , had relatives called DeLacey somewhere round Bruff , Castle connell, Croom, in Limerick but I know nothing about them other than that they were Limerick DeLaceys.

  • Hi Veronica,

Could you please post your message on the parish profile page for Stradbally (Castleconnell) here: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/stradbally-limerick

There aree baptism records available dating from February 1850 for Castleconnell. These are available at the Limerick Archives

http://www.limerick.ie/archives/ and also at the National Library of Ireland under the reference number: Pos.2477.

Police personnel records are available at the National Archives (UK) under the reference HO 184. There are copies also available from the Church of Latter Day Saints, National Archives of Ireland and the Public Records of Northern Ireland. It includes brief information about the recruit such as their service records, date of marriage, wife's native county, and the nameof the individual who recommended them. This can help to identify an exact place of origin. There is also a book by Jim Herlihy called The Royal Irish Constabulary: a complete alphabetical list of officers and men, 1816-1922 (Dublin: Four Courts, 1999).Also available at the UK National Archives under the reference PMG 48 is, 'Pensions and allowances to officers, men and staff of the Royal Irish Constabulary and to their widows and children'.

  • Hi Veronica,

As you can see, I have edited your message above, so that all the information is together.

Further to this, could you please now post this message on the following pages: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/croom-limerick and http://www.irelandxo.com/group/bruff

You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffth's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864 however. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

You could also check the 1911 and 1901 census records for information on the number of DeLaceys in the region at that time: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney
