Hallo, can anyone help please? My great grandfather was John Connors, a farmer of Pallas Portumna and he is listed in the two irish census. His wife Ellen McDonagh died in 1888 after having six children. She died in the Portumna Workhouse aged just 32 - from her death certificate it states she died of breast cancer.
I am wondering if anyone can help me in identifying where people who ended up in the workhouse may have been buried so that when I come to Ireland next, I can pay my respects. I would also like to identify where my great grandfather and his son, also called John Connors may be laid to rest.
One of the children, Rose Connors married in 1916 to a John Killacky of Stonyisland - and I would like to try and trace that part of the family tree.
I am also told that the family name of Fahy which I know is common in Galway is on my great grandmothers' side of the family, but I have yet to determine where. Any help much appreciated.
Also, would be happy to engage with a local expert to solve some of these questions.
Regards,
Rosaline

Hi Rosaline,
I have been told that unfortunately it seems that people who died at the workhouse were buried in Calvary Cemetery - the one on the Killimor Rd. Unfortunately - no records from the Workhouse in Portumna.
You could try contacting the Parish Priest to see if he has any records to help you. His contact details are as follows:
Fr. Brendan Lawless P.P
T: 090-9741092, Mob. 087-2622076, Email: brendanlawless@gaelic.ieKind regards,
