My 3rd Great Grandfather Joseph Perry was listed in the Tithe applotment Books in 1825 Galway County, Aughrim Parish, Caltra Townland as having a small 10 Acre plot.

Question 1  Location?  There is a Caltra shown on Google map 10 miles NW of Aughrim.  Is that the location of the Townland?

Question 2.  I visited Aughrim in 2007 and had a nice visit with Ms. Cathrine Finn? at the pub who introduced me to Cannon Trevor Sullivan.  He referred me to Norman Sinclair who reported that my ancestors were not listed in their files at Holy Trinity.  But I have a report from the 1950's by an Irish Genealogist that reported that he found in the "registers of the parish of Aughrim" my 2nd Great Grandfather, Richard D. Perry, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Perry was born 29 June 1819.

I grew up Catholic but my mothers side were mostly Protestant so I am confused why Norman did not find the records?  Could they have been Catholic?  Who might I contact to find these records?

I enjoyed my Aughrim visit and the great people at Finn's.  Trevor indicated that there was mutual respect and friendly relationship between both sides.

    Hi there,

I think this might be the Caltragh, Aughrim you might be looking for. It's the name of a townland in the parish of Aughrim.

The Roman Catholic parish register date from 1828 for Aughrim. Unless he was Protestant? Perhaps that would explain where the date 1819 came from. You could try writing to the parish priest in Aughrim and enquire again about Richard D. Perry. Maybe, someone in the Aughrim area will be able to check for you.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney

  • Mary,

Thanks for your kind efforts on providing the Perry information.  Since my ancestore left Ireland in 1834 the majority of the records could be relatives that sayed behind.  But William Perry and Mary Lloyd were related since William is my 2nd great Grand Uncle.  Their marriage record is new information so thanks for that!!!
