James Scott, ESQ., born about 1800 in Omagh, Tyrone.  - married Ellen Scott,  February 28 1832 (Yesterday morning, by the Rev Wm. Mulligan, MR JAMES SCOTT, of Omagh, to ELLEN, second daughter of the late MR JOHN SCOTT, of this town [Strabane] March 3 1832 On Monday morning, in Strabane, by the Rev. William Mulligan, JAMES SCOTT, ESQ)

Both have the Scott surname but I have yet to find thier ancestors or if they are at all related. Here is the info which I have found, please feel free to tell me if anything is incorrect

James Scott, ESQ. born about 1800 in Omagh, I have no parents nor siblings. In 1864 his occupations was listed as Linen & Woollen Drapers.

Ellen Scott was born about 1805 in Strabane. She was the daughter of John Scott born about 1770 and his wife, Elizabeth (surname unknown) who was born I'm guessing about 1776? From the records I've found, it appears that John & Elizabeth also had another daughter named, Eliza Scott sister of Ellen Scott.

John Scott died in Strabane, March 9 1830 On Sunday evening last, MR JOHN SCOTT, of this town, Merchant, after a severe and protracted illness, regretted by a numerous and extensive circle of acquaintances, leaving a widow and numerous family to deplore his loss

Elizabeth died Dec 28, 1852 at Ramelton [Co Donegal]

James Scott, ESQ. & Ellen Scott, I have just the one daughter, Isabella Scott born abt. 1830. She married James Campbell at Donagheady First Presbyterian;; ChurchGroom's Name: James Campbell Groom's Birth Date: Groom's Birthplace: Groom's Age: Bride's Name: Isabella Scott Bride's Birth Date: 1830 Bride's Birthplace: Bride's Age: 19 Marriage Date: 13 Nov 1849 Marria

I have more on James Campbell & Isabella Scott on the Donagheady Parish message board under "Campbell - Scott"

I am trying to find all the Scott family ancestors as well as Campbells.

  • My great grandfather John Scott was supposedly born in Omagh, Co. Tyrone, in 1833 or 1838 to John and Janet Scott.

In about 1858 he married Hannah McAlhanny in Co. Donegal. I think he was in the Irish Constabulary and emigrated with his wife and son Joseph to NZ in 1863. 3 more children were born in NZ. Joseph Scott became famous as a walker and represented NZ at walking competitions in the UK in the late 1880s.

I know very little else about the Scott connection. I live in Christchurch, NZ.

  • The Scott family of my ancestry, I have no idea if they remained in Ireland or not since I have so few that I know of.  My line  through James Campbell & Isabella Scott, a few of their children emmigrated to the USA where I live.

We need more Scotts to join this site to help us out!
