I am wanting to know more information about the family of John Laffey and his wife, Bridget McDonough. Their children, that I know of, were:
Thomas 1868
Myles 1870
Bridget1871
Sabina1872
Delia 1875
Catherine 1882
This family lived in Cartoor, Moycullen, Galway, Ireland.
I would like to know if there were other children, and how they might be related to a Bartley A. Laffey of the same area, son of Andrew Laffey (1831) and his wife, Bridget.
Most of these people settled in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania between 1899 and 1920.

Hi there,
There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Moycullen (Galway). These date from 1786 for baptismal, marriage and burial records. You can access these at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 2441, or the Church of Latter Day Saints, ref no. 0926071. All of these date to 1880. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.
Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
To find out how they might be related is more tricky. Often, members of the same family lived in relative proximity to each other. You could try checking the land records to see if there are other names. If so, you will be able to find out where exactly they lived. Griffth's Valuation (1848-64) is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.
Did you check the 1901 and 1911 cesnsus records? They might be listed on them. You can check them here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
