The Gildea Family from Drumshanbro
I'm seeking information on my mother's mother's family, the Gildea family of Drumshanbro. We already have quite a bit, but i've been told there are no living relations in Ireland, but maybe there are birth and dates of death or places, where family lived. Maybe someone will read this and know they are related to my family. Any contact would be great.
My great-grandfather was Peter Gildea, born June 22 or 27th 1867 and emigrated to the U.S. in 1888, where he met his wife Mary Ellen Kean, of Carrick on Shannon, marrying on 2/3/1904. They had 5 children all born in the U.S, William, Catherine, who died at the age of 3, Anne, who married Frank Maguire, who was an orphan born in Galway Bay, Ireland 3/21/1903 ( we don't know who his parents were), Rose Veronica, who is my grandmother and John GIldea, who compiled most of this information and traveled to Ireland with his wife, Mary O'Day. Sadly the last of the Gildea name, died 2 years ago with my mother's Uncle John.

I've decided to take the "23 and Me" gene test. Working on getting my brother and a male Gildea cousin to do it as well. This will then be available to the ancestry websites.

Hi,
Michael Gildea and Agnes Collison are my great grandparents. I've recently started to chart my family and would love to connect. Mary

Mary, I'm sorry I've not been back to this site in a while to see your message. Yes, we would love to connect with you. For some reason I had to rejoin this parish so maybe that is why I missed your message.

Hi Patty. Nice to hear from you. I too had to join this parish again. My grandmother was Elizabeth Gildea, daughter of Michael Gildea and Agnes Collison. I still haven't put my information about the Gildea's together but I have a list of our Gildea part of the family which someone else put together at one time. Your family is listed (your mother's name is there) , so maybe you have a similar list. You have more information than I do and one of my last names for one person is different than yours. I emailed my cousin who sent me some photos from Leitrim. She visited Michael Moran and his wife at the Gildea home which she called the Gildea homestead. The woman who would have known about the Gildea history (Mary Gildea) died a few years ago unfortunately. She went up to Leitrim many times. Another Gildea descendent (my mother's first cousin) just died recently. I can be reached at mch2000@charter.net. Hope to hear from you. Maybe we can compare notes. I tried uploading a photo of the Gildea home in Leitrim but don't know if it will post. Mary
