There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Antrim (Down and Connor). These date from 1874 to 1900 for baptismal records only. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland (NLI), Pos. 5473, or the Public Records of Northern Ireland (PRONI), MIC.1D/69. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864 however. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Greenlough (Tamlaght O'Crilly). These date from 1846 for baptismal, marriage and burial records. The burial records only date to 1870. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland (NLI), Pos. 5763, or the Public Records of Northern Ireland (PRONI), MIC.1D/58. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.

Police personnel records are available at the National Archives (UK) under the reference HO 184. There are copies also available from the Church of Latter Day Saints, National Archives of Ireland and the Public Records of Northern Ireland. It includes brief information about the recruit such as their service records, date of marriage, wife's native county, and the name of the individual who recommended them. This can help to identify an exact place of origin. There is also a book by Jim Herlihy called The Royal Irish Constabulary: a complete alphabetical list of officers and men, 1816-1922 (Dublin: Four Courts, 1999). Also available at the UK National Archives under the reference PMG 48 is, 'Pensions and allowances to officers, men and staff of the Royal Irish Constabulary and to their widows and children'.

Hi Patsym,

my children Kieran and Katy McMillan ...their great grandfather was Henry McKewon McMillan. His son was Henry George and known as Harry. He had my exhusband Brian Gerald McMillan with Molly Woodhead in 1947 in Christchurch. Harry died in Aitutaki in the Cook Islands. I remember Harry well. He was a tiny man writhing the smallest feet I have seen on a man. My children now live in Melbourne (Kieran) ...one daughter Bronte aged 2, and Katy in Henley on Thames UK with one daughter Zoe aged 2. I am sure Katy would be keen to connect with Irish relatives.
